Colt 1862 Police Pony Express OTT .44, samuel Colt-designed six-shot cap-and-bolt black-powder revolver in the caliber .44, loaded with open frame and concave drum.
In 1851, the revolver was introduced into the equipment of the US Navy, despite the name Colt Navy was sold in greater quantities to the army than the navy. The reputation of the Colt Navy revolver soon reached England, where in 1852 Samuel Colt built the only factory outside the United States. Revolvers produced at this factory between 1853 and 1856 were called Navy London. 1862 Police is one of the last of Colt's cap revolvers.
Construction - frame brass (open frame). Barrel and barrel oxidized in color black. Walnut wood grip covers. Round barrel length 5.375", thread pitch 1-30".
Drum - cannelled up to half (1/2 Fluted), lighter than full drum, not engraved, steel.
Drain - trigger guard (bail) and grip fittings made of polished brass. The trigger-tongue tension mechanism allows two positions: half-tensioned for putting caps on the chimneys and tensioned for firing a shot.
Pobojczyk - lever (stamp) fire oxidized, placed hinged under the barrel of the revolver, designed to press the lead bullets into the barrel chambers. The lever of the sidearm expands toward the rear, so the weapon had a more streamlined shape and did not catch on the edge of the holster.
