Made from Myodo Foundry Japanese-made, high chromium, low carbon (rolled without heat treatment) H-1 stainless steel with a hardness of 57-58 HRC. It contains 14-16% chromium, 0.15% carbon, 3-4.5% silicon, and 1% nitrogen. The knife can stay in fresh water as well as sea water, and will not rust even when left wet after use. The result was achieved by adding chromium and nickel to the steel and replacing some of the carbon with nitrogen.
