440C - a martensitic alloy stainless steel with a high content of 1.10% carbon (C) and a high content of 16.0% chromium (Cr) and impressive corrosion resistance. It is characterized by a hardness in the range 57-59 HRC. The high carbon content produces chromium carbide compounds, providing excellent wear resistance and edge retention after hardening. Due to its high hardness, the steel is suitable for the manufacture of cutting tools knife blades and scissors, as well as medical tools.
