A high content of 18.0% chromium (Cr) and an average of 0.95% carbon (C) provide high hardness and corrosion resistance, while the addition of alloying elements 1.3% molybdenum (Mo), 0.8% silicon (Si), 0.12% vanadium (V) increase strength and wear resistance. 9Cr18MoV is characterized by high hardness in the range 58-60 HRC. It is used in the manufacture of knives, including damascus and surgical blades, swords, scissors, cutlery.
