M390 - a high-performance martensitic chromium steel produced using powder metallurgy. Due to its alloy composition, it features exceptionally high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Thanks to its high wear resistance, it retains its edge shape well, allowing the blade to stay sharp for a very long time (requires minimal maintenance). Another advantage is its resistance to “wire” formation during sharpening. Steel with a high chromium content of 20.0% (Cr), alloyed with 1.9% carbon (C) and 4.0% vanadium (V), hardened to a hardness range of 59–61 HRC. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter’s CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Vacuum & Cryogenic - M390 steel undergoes a specialized heat treatment process comprising two key stages. Vacuum Heat Treatment: the steel is hardened in a vacuum environment, which minimizes oxidation and ensures more uniform metal properties. This process increases the steel’s strength and structural integrity. Cryogenic Treatment: After heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability. Thanks to these advanced processes, M390 steel delivers exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and remarkable blade durability.
Blade - slender, Tanto Edge style, finished with a Beadblasted finish that masks minor scratches caused by use. The blade thickness, combined with a high, flat grind, provides excellent cutting edge geometry and extreme cutting performance. Ceramic ball bearings ensure smooth and seamless operation of the mechanism and assist in opening the blade using the disc on the blade. The locking mechanism is an intuitive and reliable Button Lock.
Handle - grips made of 6AL4V titanium, a material that is extremely mechanically durable and virtually completely resistant to weather conditions and chemicals. The entire assembly is bolted to a solid backspacer, also made of 6AL4V titanium. The simple, solid construction ensures many years of reliable use. The fore finger groove improves grip and creates a mini-Guard, preventing the hand from slipping onto the blade. A two-position (right/left) titanium deep carry clip allows you to carry the knife discreetly in your pocket in the tip-up position (blade tip facing up).
