M390 - a high-performance martensitic chromium steel produced using powder metallurgy. Due to its alloy composition, it features exceptionally high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Thanks to its high wear resistance, it effectively retains its edge shape, allowing the blade to stay sharp for a very long time (requiring minimal maintenance). Another advantage is its resistance to “wire” formation during sharpening. High-chromium steel 20.0% (Cr) with an alloying content of 1.9% carbon (C) and 4.0% vanadium (V), hardened to a hardness range of 59–61 HRC. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter’s CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Vacuum & Cryogenic - M390 steel undergoes a specialized heat treatment process comprising two key stages. Vacuum Heat Treatment: the steel is hardened in a vacuum environment, which minimizes oxidation and ensures more uniform metal properties. This process increases the steel’s strength and structural integrity. Cryogenic Treatment: After heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability. Thanks to these advanced processes, M390 steel delivers exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and remarkable blade durability.
Blade - sheepfoot style, finished with a sandblasted finish that masks minor scratches. The long, strong cutting edge tapers toward a needle-sharp tip. Blade thickness ensures high strength, while the high, flat grind and wide edge guarantee excellent cutting performance. Ceramic ball bearings support the smooth operation of the blade opening mechanism, which can be activated via a thumb hole in the blade. On the blade spine, upper jimping provides a textured thumb rest. The entire blade is secured by a modern Frame Lock mechanism with a steel inlay that prevents wear on the lock face.
Handle - contoured 6AL4V titanium grips milled in a “diamond pattern”. The assembly is bolted to a solid backspacer, also made of titanium. The simple, robust construction ensures many years of reliable use. The pivot is adorned with a titanium cap (Pivot Cap) in a contrasting color. Single-position (right-side) titanium deep carry clip allows you to carry the knife discreetly in your pocket in the tip-up position (blade tip facing up). The protruding section of the backspacer features a hole for threading a safety or decorative lanyard; it can also serve as an improvised glass breaker.
