He believes that every design should be ergonomic and provide both aesthetic and practical pleasure, while also functioning effectively as a tool. The main rule: never sacrifice a knife’s functionality for the sake of the design alone!
CPM S35VN – an American martensitic high-alloy stainless steel with a hardness of 59–61 HRC, one of the best steels for blade production. Designed to provide better toughness compared to CPM S30V, while maintaining corrosion resistance at the highest level. Manufactured by US Crucible Industries using the Crucible® Particle Metallurgy (CPM) process. The CPM process produces a highly homogeneous, high-quality steel characterized by excellent dimensional stability, grindability, and ductility compared to steels produced by conventional methods. The chemical composition has been balanced to include 0.5% niobium carbides (Nb), 3.0% vanadium carbides (V), and 14.0% chromium (Cr). Replacing some of the niobium carbides with vanadium carbides makes the steel approximately 15–20% harder than S30V without losing wear resistance; it is also easier to machine and polish. The improved strength of CPM S35VN also provides better resistance to edge chipping.
Vacuum & Cryogenic - the steel undergoes a specialized heat treatment process comprising two key stages. Vacuum Heat Treatment involves hardening the steel in a vacuum environment, which minimizes oxidation and ensures more uniform metal properties. This process increases the steel’s strength and structural integrity. Cryogenic Treatment: After heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability. Thanks to these advanced processes, the steel delivers exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and remarkable blade durability.
Blade - Straight Back type, with a wide blade finished with sandblasting to conceal scratches. The long cutting edge relative to the blade length tapers toward the needle-sharp tip of the knife. Blade thickness ensures high strength, while the high, flat grind provides excellent cutting edge geometry and extreme cutting performance. Ceramic ball bearings ensure smooth and seamless operation of the knife’s opening mechanism. A hole in the blade allows for quick and effortless opening by both right- and left-handed users. The knife can also be opened using the flipper tab, which, when opened, forms a mini-Guard to prevent the hand from slipping onto the blade. On the blade spine, there is upper jimping, a serrated thumb rest. A small choil facilitates sharpening. The entire blade is secured by a proven and popular frame lock with a steel inlay that prevents wear on the lock face.
Handle - consists of two pieces of solid 6AL4V titanium; frilled lines on the surface improve grip and add aesthetic appeal. The beveled edges of the covers eliminate sharp edges for comfort and improve grip security. A solid titanium backspacer, to which the grips are attached, ensures the rigidity and durability of the entire construction. The simple, robust design guarantees years of reliable use. A deep forefinger groove improves grip security. The pivot is adorned with a stylized Kubey Knife logo. A single-position (right-side) titanium deep carry clip allows you to carry the knife discreetly in your pocket in a tip-up position (blade tip facing up).
