199,36 €Bluff Grey Ripple Titanium, Beadblasted, designed by American designer Gareth Caronna, is distinguished by its exceptional craftsmanship and the use of top-quality materials. The bead-blasted titanium handle, featuring the micro-milled Ripple texture, ensures not only an elegant appearance but also durability and a secure grip. The blade, made of M390 powder-coated steel—known for its strength and ability to retain a sharp edge for a long time—guarantees reliability in everyday use. The use of ball bearings allows for smooth and quick opening of the knife, enhancing user comfort. The Axis lock ensures safety during use by preventing the blade from closing accidentally. Additionally, its compact dimensions when folded make the knife easy to fit in a pocket or backpack, making it an ideal everyday companion.
Garet Caronna is an American knife and tool designer who collaborates with renowned manufacturers such as Kubey Knife, Bestechman, and BlackFox. His knives are simple, elegant, and functional, as well as comfortable to use and carry. His most famous model is the Bluff, a folding knife with an axis lock and grips made of Ultem, a plastic highly resistant to temperature and chemicals. Garet Caronna is a talented and creative knifemaker who combines modern technology and classic style in his designs.
Kubey—one of the largest manufacturers producing top-quality knives at great prices! The company’s motto is “An Edge Above the Rest” / “The edge comes first.” Thanks to the use of high-speed CNC machine tools, milling machines, laser cutting, and custom hand finishing, the brand focuses on quality craftsmanship and an innovative approach to design.
M390 - a high-performance martensitic chromium steel produced using powder metallurgy. Due to its alloy composition, it features exceptionally high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Thanks to its high wear resistance, it retains its edge shape well, allowing the blade to stay sharp for a very long time (requiring minimal maintenance). Another advantage is its resistance to “wire” formation during sharpening. Steel with a high chromium content of 20.0% (Cr), alloyed with 1.9% carbon (C) and 4.0% vanadium (V), hardened to a hardness range of 59–61 HRC. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter’s CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Vacuum & Cryogenic - the steel undergoes a specialized heat treatment process comprising two key stages. Vacuum Heat Treatment: the steel is hardened in a vacuum environment, which minimizes oxidation and ensures more uniform metal properties. This process increases the steel’s strength and structural integrity. Cryogenic Treatment: After heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability. Thanks to these advanced processes, the steel delivers exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and remarkable blade durability.
Axis Lock - a crossbar that moves horizontally within longitudinal slots in the steel side plates of the Handle frame. When the knife is opened, the locking bar engages from above with the rear portion of the blade, preventing it from moving backward. This bar is held in place by two springs. Unlocking occurs by pulling the locking bar backward; its ends are accessible through notches in the handle grips. In the closed position, the bar presses against the cam surface at the rear of the blade, preventing it from opening spontaneously. The advantages of the Axis Lock include resistance to contamination, practical insensitivity to dynamic loads, ease of operation with both the right and left hand, and smooth operation.
Blade - with a drop point profile. Finished using the Beadblasted method to mask minor scratches caused during use. The long cutting edge, with a slight bevel, tapers toward the sharp tip of the blade. Blade thickness and a long grain ensure high strength, while the high, flat grind provides excellent cutting edge geometry and extreme cutting performance. Ceramic ball bearings ensure smooth and seamless operation of the mechanism and assist in opening the blade using the thumb stud. On the blade spine, upper jimping, a serrated thumb rest. Locking mechanism: Axis Lock.
Handle - grips made of 6AL4V titanium, a virtually indestructible metal, impervious to weather conditions, resistant to chemicals and mechanical damage. Textured to improve grip. Open-backed construction without a typical backspacer, held together by steel spacer sleeves, facilitates cleaning. The simple, solid construction ensures many years of reliable use. Ergonomic finger grooves facilitate a secure grip on the handle. The pivot is adorned with a stylized manufacturer’s logo. Single-position (right-side) titanium deep carry clip allows for discreet carrying of the knife in a pocket in the tip-up position (blade tip facing upward).
