14C28N - martensitic chromium stainless steel is the latest achievement in the range of knife steels produced by the Swedish steelworks Sandvik. Vacuum & Cryogenic - 14C28N steel undergoes a specialized heat treatment process comprising two key stages. Vacuum Heat Treatment involves hardening the steel in a vacuum environment, which minimizes oxidation and ensures more uniform metal properties. This process increases the steel’s strength and structural integrity. Cryogenic Treatment: After heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability. Thanks to these advanced processes, 14C28N steel delivers exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and remarkable blade durability.
Axis Lock - a transverse bar that moves horizontally within longitudinal slots in the steel side plates of the Handle frame. When the knife is opened, the locking bar engages from above with the rear portion of the blade, preventing it from moving backward. This bar is held in place by two springs. Unlocking occurs by pulling the locking bar backward; its ends are accessible through notches in the handle grips. In the closed position, the bar presses against the cam surface at the rear of the blade, preventing it from opening spontaneously. The advantages of the Axis Lock include resistance to contamination, practical insensitivity to dynamic loads, ease of operation with both the right and left hand, and smooth operation.
Blade - with a Drop Point profile. Finished with a matte, sandblasted coating that effectively masks minor scratches caused during use. The long cutting edge with a slight bevel tapers toward the sharp tip of the blade. Blade thickness and long grain ensure high durability, while the high, flat grind provides excellent cutting edge geometry and extreme cutting performance. Phosphor bronze washers ensure smooth and seamless operation of the mechanism and assist in opening the blade via the thumb hole. On the blade spine, upper jimping, a serrated thumb rest. Handle - G10 composite grips, a virtually indestructible material that is weather-resistant, chemical-resistant, and resistant to mechanical damage. Textured to improve grip, screwed to the knife’s steel frame. Open-backed construction without a typical backspacer, held together by steel spacer sleeves, facilitates cleaning. The simple, solid construction ensures many years of reliable use. An ergonomic finger groove facilitates a secure grip on the handle. The pivot is adorned with the manufacturer’s stylized logo.
