1858 Remington New Model Army Texas .44, a six-shot percussion black powder Remington revolver in .44 caliber with a shortened 3" snubnose barrel. Muzzle-loaded, with a closed brass frame.

The revolver features a so-called closed frame design, in which the one-piece frame surrounds the cylinder, making it more reliable than many of its contemporaries. The closed frame also provided greater structural rigidity and durability. Another major advantage was the ability to quickly remove the entire cylinder and replace it with a fresh, preloaded one. Produced from 1863 to 1875, it was offered in two calibers: the .36 cal New Model Navy version and the .44 cal New Model Army version. It is estimated that approximately 122,000 examples of this model left the factory.

Constructiona polished brass closed frame, 6-chamber cylinder, grip fittings, hammer, and octagonal 3" snub-nose barrel with a 1:30" twist rate. Sights include a fixed front sight. The trigger guard is made of polished brass.

Grip - crafted from natural walnut wood, providing a secure, confident hold. The oil finish enhances the color of the wood, brings out the grain, and preserves its natural appearance. The oil penetrates deep into the wood without clogging the pores, allowing the wood to breathe.

Trigger - the hammer mechanism offers two positions: half-cock, intended for placing percussion caps on the nipples, and full-cock, ready for firing.

Cylinder Pin Latch - due to the shortened barrel, this revolver does not feature a loading lever, which normally locks the cylinder pin in place. Instead, the pin is secured by a convenient latch, allowing for even faster and more comfortable cylinder replacement.

The Remington Model 1858 was the favorite firearm of William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody. One of his own examples can be seen at the Remington Arms Company headquarters, accompanied by a handwritten note from Cody stating: “This old Remington revolver I carried and used for many years, in Indian wars and killing buffaloes. And it never failed me.” It is worth noting that Buffalo Bill was so attached to his revolver that he continued using it even after more modern cartridge revolvers became available. This loyalty may be attributed to the revolver’s excellent accuracy and impressive stopping power. Projectiles fired from the Remington 1858, depending on the amount and quality of powder used, were capable of achieving substantial muzzle velocities, ranging from 168 to 393 meters per second and beyond. By comparison, the muzzle velocity of a bullet fired from a P-64 pistol is 305 meters per second.
