- UTX-85 Gen IV D/E Red Aluminum, Apocalyptic F/S is a compact OTF automatic knife from the UTX-85 series. Designed for EDC applications, it retains all the advantages of larger models. Operating in D/A mode, it features a fast blade extension mechanism.
297,03 €This product is intended for use only by adults with knowledge and experience in handling sharp cutting tools. Improper use of the knife can result in serious injuries. The blade is extremely sharp and can easily cut through skin and tissue; therefore, extra caution should always be exercised while cutting, and hands should be kept away from the cutting edge. To prevent the knife from slipping, it is recommended to cut on a stable, non-slip surface and avoid excessive force, which may cause uncontrolled blade movement.
Leaving the knife on the edge of a table, countertop, or in easily accessible places—especially where children are present—poses a significant safety risk. The knife should always be properly secured after use, ideally by placing it on a stable surface or storing it in designated knife blocks, protective sheaths, or magnetic strips. The knife should never be used for tasks it is not designed for, such as opening cans or prying objects, as this can damage the tool and lead to dangerous accidents.
A dull blade increases the risk of injury, as it requires more force and is more likely to slip from the material being cut. Therefore, it is essential to sharpen the knife regularly to maintain optimal sharpness. Additionally, proper cleaning and drying of the knife are necessary to prevent corrosion and bacterial growth. Periodic inspection of the handle and blade is recommended to check for cracks, chips, or looseness. If any damage is detected, the knife should be repaired or replaced immediately.
When using the knife, focus solely on the task at hand—avoid talking on the phone, watching television, or other distractions while cutting. Ensure proper lighting in the workspace for better visibility and control. Please note that some countries or regions have laws restricting the ownership and carrying of knives. Before purchasing or using this knife, verify that its use is legal in your location according to applicable regulations.
Following these safety guidelines will help ensure safe and effective knife use, minimizing the risk of accidents and extending the lifespan of the tool.
UTX-85 Gen IV Red Aluminum, Apocalyptic is a compact evolution of the legendary Ultratech, in which Tony Marfione focused on operational precision, ergonomic handling, and the reliability of the OTF mechanism. The design centers on the concept of instant response—every structural feature is designed for fast, repeatable blade deployment while maintaining full operational safety. The central element of the design is the M390MK steel blade, distinguished by excellent edge retention and high abrasion resistance. A double-edge profile has been used, which allows for cutting in both directions and enhances functionality during symmetrical operations. The OTF (out-the-front) mechanism enables instantaneous deployment and retraction of the blade, operated by a smooth motion of the slider located at the top of the handle. The aluminum body with a compact geometry is designed to ensure a secure grip in all conditions. Milling and jimping enhance control, while the tactical end cap at the rear of the handle expands its utility in emergency situations. The package is rounded out by a deep carry clip, ensuring low-profile and stable carry in a pocket. The UTX-85 Gen IV is a tool that meets the expectations of users seeking a compact, responsive OTF design. Thanks to precise mechanics, premium materials, and ergonomic form, this model remains one of the most refined automatic folders in its segment.
UTX-85—at 85% the size of the flagship Ultratech® model—is designed to fit perfectly in the hand, making it an excellent choice for everyday carry. The release mechanism is easier to operate than on the full-size Ultratech®, making this model a great fit for smaller or more sensitive hands as well. The UTX-85® retains a fully functional glass breaker and all the features and capabilities of its larger counterpart.
M390MK - through a collaboration between engineers at Microtech and Böhler, an exclusive version of M390 steel was developed exclusively for Microtech. The carbon content was increased and subjected to more precise control, thereby improving the properties of M390 steel to ensure better edge retention, corrosion resistance, and polishability. A martensitic high-performance chromium steel produced using powder metallurgy. Due to its alloy composition, it features exceptionally high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Thanks to its high wear resistance, it retains its edge shape well, allowing the blade to stay sharp for a very long time (requires minimal maintenance). Another advantage is its resistance to “wire” formation during sharpening. Steel with a high chromium content of 19.0% (Cr), alloyed with 1.95% carbon (C) and 4.0% vanadium (V), hardened to a range of 59–61 HRC. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter’s CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Blade - machine-ground D/E (Double Edge) type, serrated on both sides. Finished with a matte Apocalyptic patina that gives an aged effect and masks minor scratches caused during use. The blade features a high flat grind, ensuring excellent cutting performance. As a result, while maintaining high strength, the knife has excellent piercing capabilities. The robust blade extension/retraction mechanism, operated by a knurled Thumb Slide, a stepped thumb slider, requires a specific amount of force to overcome spring resistance for safety. The opening mechanism ensures smooth operation for both right- and left-handed users.
Handle - precision-machined using 3D technology on CNC mills from Mil-Spec-coated 6061-T6 aluminum. The texture of the handle surface prevents the knife from slipping in the hand during use. There are notches (jimping) on the spine and bottom of the handle for a more secure grip. The slim profile and the milled, two-position (right/left) solid deep carry clip allow for discreet carrying of the knife in a pocket in the tip-down position (blade tip pointing down). The clip features the Microtech logo, serial number, and date of manufacture.
The handle is finished with a glass breaker—a solid steel triangle into which a tungsten carbide ball has been pressed. It also features a hole for threading a decorative cord.
