Microtech Ultratech Gen III ZBP S/E Black Aluminum, Apocalyptic P/S Böhler M390MK by Tony Marfione (1121-11AP) is a premium-class OTF automatic knife, featuring a partially serrated S/E Drop Point blade, the Zero Blade Play system, and an upgraded Gen III mechanism. The black 6061-T6 aluminum frame, Apocalyptic finish, and titanium clip create a functional design intended for everyday use.
The D/A OTF mechanism allows the blade to be automatically extended and retracted using the same slider. The Crud Kutter™ and Dual-Fuel Drive Train™ solutions ensure smooth operation of the mechanism, while Zero Blade Play limits blade movement once it is extended. The design is complemented by Torx screws, a titanium clip with a ceramic ball, and an integral glass breaker.
Böhler M390MK – powder steel with high edge retention
The blade is made of Böhler M390MK steel with a hardness of 61–62 HRC. The material is characterized by high abrasion resistance, good corrosion resistance, and long-lasting sharpness. It performs well when regularly cutting cardboard, tape, cord, straps, and synthetic materials.
S/E Drop Point, Flat, and Partially Serrated
The S/E Drop Point profile offers a functional tip and a versatile cutting edge. The Flat grind ensures smooth blade guidance, while the Partially Serrated serration facilitates cutting ropes, straps, tapes, and other fibrous materials. The Apocalyptic finish gives the blade a rugged, aged look.
Black Aluminum and Zero Blade Play System
The handle is made of 6061-T6 aluminum in Black. The slim Ultratech body ensures comfortable control when operating the slide, and the Zero Blade Play system increases the stability of the extended blade. The reversible tip-down clip allows the knife to be carried on the right or left side.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for and sharpen Böhler M390MK steel?
After use, clean the blade and dry it thoroughly. For sharpening, it is best to use diamond stones, CBN systems, or a precision guide system that helps maintain a consistent angle.
How do you sharpen a partially serrated P/S edge?
The smooth section of the edge should be sharpened as usual, maintaining a consistent angle. The serrated section is best maintained using a matching ceramic rod or conical sharpening stone, working on each notch separately.
How does the OTF D/A mechanism work?
The OTF D/A mechanism extends and retracts the blade using the same slide. Moving the slide forward automatically extends the blade, while moving it backward retracts it into the aluminum body.
What does the Zero Blade Play system offer?
Zero Blade Play reduces perceptible blade movement once it’s extended, increasing blade stability and control when making precise cuts.
How do you maintain the OTF mechanism?
The interior of the handle should be protected from excessive sand, fibers, and thick lubricants. For periodic maintenance, it is recommended to use a small amount of a light lubricant designed for OTF mechanisms, and then extend and retract the blade several times.
