Microtech Ultratech Gen III EX-ZBP Interceptor Signature Black Milled Aluminum, Apocalyptic Böhler M390MK by Tony Marfione (1117EX-10APS) is a premium OTF automatic knife from the Signature Series. The model combines the distinctive S/E Interceptor blade, Böhler M390MK steel, a black milled aluminum body, and an advanced EX-ZBP mechanism that limits the movement of the extended blade.
The D/A OTF mechanism extends and retracts the blade with a single slider. The Zero Blade Play, Crud Kutter™, and Dual-Fuel Drive Train™ systems support the mechanism’s stability and smooth operation. The design is complemented by Torx screws, a titanium clip with a ceramic ball, and an upgraded glass breaker.
Böhler M390MK – wear resistance and long-lasting sharpness
The blade is made of Böhler M390MK steel with a hardness of 61–62 HRC. This material provides high abrasion resistance, good corrosion resistance, and long-lasting cutting edge retention. It performs well when regularly cutting cardboard, tape, cord, and synthetic materials.
S/E Interceptor, Flat, and Apocalyptic
The S/E Interceptor profile is distinguished by an aggressively contoured tip, a characteristic bend in the spine, and a smooth cutting edge. The Flat grind ensures stable blade control, while the Apocalyptic finish gives the blade a practical, weathered look and helps mask minor signs of wear.
Black Milled Aluminum and EX-ZBP Mechanism
The handle is made of 6061-T6 aluminum and features a milled Black Milled surface. This finish enhances grip control and emphasizes the model’s technical design. The Zero Blade Play system limits perceptible blade movement after deployment, increasing blade stability during use.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for and sharpen Böhler M390MK steel?
After use, clean the blade and dry it thoroughly. For sharpening, it is best to use diamond stones, CBN systems, or a precision guide system that helps maintain a consistent angle.
How does the D/A OTF mechanism work?
The D/A OTF mechanism extends and retracts the blade using the same slider. Pushing it forward extends the blade, and moving it in the opposite direction retracts it into the Handle.
What does EX-ZBP stand for?
EX-ZBP refers to the variant equipped with the Zero Blade Play system and a milled handle. This design minimizes perceptible movement of the extended blade, increasing its stability during controlled cuts.
What are the advantages of the Black Milled handle?
The milled surface improves grip and control while giving the aluminum body a distinctive, technical look.
Does the knife have a glass breaker?
Yes. The upgraded glass breaker is an integral part of the design and enhances the knife’s functionality in emergency situations.
