The Microtech Socom Elite Auto 160A-10APTA is a full-size automatic knife that combines an Böhler M390MK S/E steel blade with a sandblasted 6061-T6 aluminum handle. The Apocalyptic finish gives the blade a rugged, characteristically weathered look, and the solid construction reflects the tactical and practical nature of the Socom Elite line.
The blade opens automatically with the push of a button and operates on washers. The design is complemented by an aluminum backspacer with a gray finish and a steel clip on the right side, designed for carrying the knife point-down.
Böhler M390MK – steel developed for Microtech
The blade is made of Böhler M390MK steel, a special grade of M390 developed for Microtech in collaboration with Böhler. The steel offers high resistance to corrosion and wear, as well as excellent edge retention, which well suits the demands of a large automatic folder.
S/E Blade, Flat Grind, and Apocalyptic Finish
The S/E blade features a flat grind, which provides versatile cutting performance and smooth glide through materials. The Apocalyptic finish gives the surface a deliberately aged look and complements the Socom Elite’s intended use well.
Sand-blasted 6061-T6 aluminum and automatic opening
The handle is made of 6061-T6 aluminum in a sand color. Its distinctive profile was designed for a secure and stable grip, and a gray aluminum backspacer completes the rear of the construction.
The automatic mechanism is activated by a button that releases the blade, allowing the spring to open it instantly. After use, the blade is folded manually by overcoming the tension of the spring mechanism.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for Böhler M390MK steel?
After use, it is recommended to clean the blade and dry it thoroughly. M390MK has high corrosion resistance, but periodically applying a thin layer of a suitable protective agent helps keep the surface in good condition.
At what angle should you sharpen the Microtech Socom Elite Auto?
A good starting point is approximately 15–20° per side, preferably while maintaining the factory edge geometry. For the M390MK, it’s best to use high-performance abrasives suitable for steel with high wear resistance.
How does the Socom Elite Auto’s automatic mechanism work?
Pressing the button releases the mechanism and causes the blade to open automatically. When you’re finished, the blade is closed manually by overcoming the spring tension.
How do you clean the aluminum handle?
It’s best to clean the handle with a soft, slightly damp cloth or brush. After removing dirt, thoroughly dry the surface, avoiding harsh abrasives.
How do you maintain the blade pivot?
The area around the pivot should be periodically cleaned of dust and small debris. A small amount of knife-specific lubricant can help the washers operate smoothly, but avoid excessive lubrication.
