The Microtech Scarab II Gen III Executive 1176-10RD is a full-size OTF automatic knife designed by Tony Marfione. The Executive variant combines a red aluminum handle with a Drop Point blade made of Böhler M390MK steel and a stonewashed finish.
The Double Action OTF mechanism allows the blade to be automatically extended and retracted using a slider. The design is complemented by a steel clip, a window breaker with an embedded tungsten carbide ball, and the rear structural holes characteristic of the Gen III generation.
Böhler M390MK – steel developed for Microtech
The blade is made of Böhler M390MK, a special grade of M390 developed for Microtech in collaboration with Böhler. The material offers high corrosion and wear resistance as well as excellent edge retention, meeting the demands of a large OTF automatic knife.
Drop Point, flat grind, and stonewashed finish
The Drop Point profile provides a functional tip and versatile edge geometry for everyday and more demanding tasks. The flat grind promotes efficient cutting, while the stonewashed finish gives the blade a subdued, utilitarian character.
Red Aluminum and Double Action OTF Mechanism
The handle is made of red aluminum. The Executive version does not use the inserts characteristic of other Scarab II variants, giving the handle a uniform appearance.
The Blade is automatically extended and retracted using a slide located on the Handle. The Slide Lock mechanism works in conjunction with the Double Action OTF design, while the steel glass breaker with an embedded tungsten carbide ball is an integral part of the knife’s rear section.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for Böhler M390MK steel?
M390MK is highly corrosion-resistant, but after contact with moisture or dirt, it’s a good idea to clean the blade and dry it thoroughly. Periodically applying a thin layer of a suitable protective coating helps keep the surface in good condition.
At what angle should you sharpen the Microtech Scarab II Gen III?
A good starting point is approximately 15–20° per side, preferably while maintaining the factory edge geometry. For the M390MK, it’s best to use high-performance abrasives suitable for steel with high wear resistance.
How does the Double Action OTF mechanism work?
Pushing the slider forward automatically extends the blade, and pulling it back retracts it into the Handle. Both actions are performed by the same mechanism, without the need to manually fold the blade.
How do you clean the OTF mechanism?
The interior of the mechanism should be protected from excessive dust, sand, and other contaminants. For maintenance, use products suitable for OTF mechanisms and avoid excessive amounts of thick grease, which can trap dirt.
How to safely store the Scarab II Gen III?
The knife should be stored with the blade retracted into the Handle, out of the reach of children and unauthorized persons. Before putting it away, make sure the mechanism and blade are clean and dry.
