The Microtech Dirac Delta 227-1PLOBS is a full-size OTF automatic knife from the Signature series, distinguished by a consistent “Plague Outbreak” finish on both the blade and the handle. The double-edged dagger-profile blade is crafted from Böhler M390MK steel, while the 6061-T6 aluminum frame features a deeply engraved surface, giving this version a decidedly more distinctive character than standard Dirac Delta variants.
The model uses a Double Action OTF mechanism, so the same slide is responsible for both automatically extending and retracting the blade. A distinctive feature of the Dirac family is the placement of the control element on the flat surface of the handle, which sets it apart from many other Microtech OTF knives with the slide located on the side edge of the body.
Böhler M390MK – steel developed for Microtech
The blade is made of Böhler M390MK steel, a special grade of M390 developed for Microtech in collaboration with Böhler. The material combines high resistance to corrosion and wear with very good edge retention, making it well-suited for the large, double-edged blade of an automatic OTF knife.
Double-edged blade, flat grind, and Plague Outbreak
The double-edged blade with a dagger profile ensures symmetrical geometry and a clearly defined tip. The flat grind gives the blade a versatile working geometry, while the Plague Outbreak finish lends the surface a deliberately aged, aggressive aesthetic characteristic of this Signature edition.
Deep-Engraved Aluminum and Double-Action OTF Mechanism
The handle is made of 6061-T6 aluminum and finished in the Plague Outbreak style, complemented by deep engraving. As a result, the surface is not merely decoratively colored but features a distinctly textured finish, which is one of the main distinguishing features of this variant.
The blade extends and retracts automatically via a slide located on the handle surface. The design is complemented by a steel clip, which can be moved to the right or left side, and a glass breaker also made of stainless steel, featuring an embedded tungsten carbide ball. The integral OTF body does not use a separate classic backspacer.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for Böhler M390MK steel?
After use, it’s a good idea to clean the blade and dry it thoroughly. M390MK has high corrosion resistance, but regular maintenance helps keep both the surface and the cutting edges in good condition.
How do you sharpen a double-edged dagger-profile blade?
Both edges should be sharpened separately, maintaining their symmetry and factory geometry. High-performance abrasives, especially diamond ones, work well with the M390MK.
How does the Double Action OTF mechanism work?
Pushing the slide forward automatically extends the blade, while pulling it back automatically retracts the blade into the Handle. Both actions are performed by the same control mechanism.
How do you clean the deeply engraved Plague Outbreak handle?
It’s best to clean the surface with a soft brush or a slightly damp cloth. Pay special attention to the recesses of the engraving, where dust and fine debris can accumulate.
How do I care for the Dirac Delta mechanism?
The interior of the mechanism should be protected from sand, dust, and excess lubricant. Regularly removing fine debris from around the slider helps maintain smooth and consistent operation of the OTF mechanism.
