The Microtech Socom RAM-LOK 161RL-10APFROD is a full-size folding knife featuring a Tanto blade made of Böhler M390MK steel and an olive-green aluminum handle with a milled “Frag” pattern. The Apocalyptic finish gives the blade a distinctive, intentionally aged look that complements the model’s functional design.
The knife is opened manually using two thumb studs. The RAM-LOK system stabilizes the blade, and the titanium clip can be moved to the right or left side in a tip-down configuration.
Böhler M390MK – Steel for Demanding Use
The blade is made of Böhler M390MK steel, a special grade of M390 developed for Microtech in collaboration with Böhler. The steel combines high resistance to corrosion and abrasion with excellent edge retention.
Tanto, flat grind, and Apocalyptic finish
The Tanto profile is characterized by a robust front section of the blade and a distinct tip. The flat grind ensures versatile cutting performance, while the Apocalyptic finish gives the surface a raw, utilitarian look.
Olive-green aluminum Frag and RAM-LOK
The handle is made of olive-green aluminum and features a milled Frag pattern. The geometric texture increases the grip’s surface variation and emphasizes the technical nature of the design.
The RAM-LOK lock uses a transverse bar to lock the blade in place when open. Manual opening is achieved using two thumb studs, while the reversible titanium clip allows you to adjust the carrying side of the knife.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for Böhler M390MK steel?
After use, it’s a good idea to clean the blade and dry it thoroughly. M390MK is corrosion-resistant, but regular care helps keep the surface and edge in good condition.
How do I sharpen a Tanto blade?
It is best to sharpen both sections of the edge separately, maintaining a distinct transition between them. With M390MK, it is advisable to use high-performance abrasives and maintain the blade’s factory geometry.
How does RAM-LOK work?
RAM-LOK uses a transverse locking element that secures the blade when it is fully extended. The mechanism allows you to release the lock without placing your fingers directly in the path of the folding blade.
How do you clean a handle with a milled “Frag” pattern?
It’s best to clean the surface with a soft brush or a slightly damp cloth. Pay special attention to the recesses of the milled pattern, where fine debris can accumulate.
How do you maintain the knife mechanism?
It’s a good idea to regularly clean the area around the pivot and the locking mechanism to remove dust and small particles of dirt. After cleaning, you can apply a small amount of a suitable lubricant for knife mechanisms.
