The Kubey KB Pioneer KB379A is a titanium folding knife designed by Evgeniy Bulychev, combining a 20CV steel blade with a gray, bead-blasted handle featuring Contoured Wave Milling. The Drop Point profile, Frame Lock, and ceramic ball bearings create a modern EDC design with a distinctly technical character.
The 85.00 mm blade features a flat grind and a bead-blasted finish. It opens manually via a front flipper or ambidextrous thumb studs, and once fully extended, the blade is secured by a Frame Lock.
20CV and vacuum-cryogenic treatment
The blade is made of 20CV steel, hardened to 60–62 HRC. Vacuum hardening combined with cryogenic treatment was used, which helps achieve high hardness, wear resistance, and stable steel properties during regular use.
Drop Point, flat grind, and bead-blasted
The Drop Point profile provides a versatile geometry with a functional tip and efficient use of the cutting edge’s length. The flat grind ensures smooth blade glide through material, while the bead-blasted finish gives the blade a matte, subdued appearance.
Gray Titanium, Contoured Wave Milling, and Frame Lock
The handle is made of titanium and finished in a gray, sandblasted variant. Its surface is complemented by Contoured Wave Milling, which emphasizes the model’s technical styling and increases the texture of the grip surface. The titanium backspacer and clip feature the same gray, sandblasted finish.
Ceramic ball bearings ensure smooth blade operation, while the Frame Lock utilizes a titanium body as the locking element. The clip is positioned on the right side in a tip-up configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for 20CV steel?
It’s a good idea to clean the blade regularly and dry it thoroughly. 20CV resists corrosion well, but proper care helps maintain the blade’s sharpness and the surface’s appearance for longer.
How do you sharpen the Kubey Pioneer?
High-performance abrasives, especially diamond-based ones, work well with 20CV steel. It’s best to maintain the factory edge geometry and guide the sharpener evenly along the entire length of the blade.
How does the Frame Lock work?
The Frame Lock uses a section of the titanium handle as a locking element to secure the blade once it is open. Releasing the lock allows the knife to be folded.
How do you clean a sandblasted titanium handle?
For daily cleaning, it’s best to use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Pay special attention to the Wave Milling grooves, where fine debris can accumulate.
How do you care for ceramic ball bearings?
Keep the area around the pivot clean and protect it from excessive dust. If necessary, you can use a small amount of a cleaner designed for pivot mechanisms.
