The Microtech UTX-70 Gen IV 11474-10APTA is a compact OTF automatic knife designed by Tony Marfione, featuring a double-edged blade made of M390MK steel and a sand-colored aluminum frame. The Apocalyptic finish gives the blade a distinctive, aged look.
The 63.50 mm blade features a Double Edge geometry and a flat grind. The Double-Action OTF mechanism allows the blade to be automatically extended and retracted using a slide.
M390MK – Steel for a Compact OTF
The blade is made of M390MK steel, a variant of M390 developed for Microtech in collaboration with Böhler. The material combines high wear resistance with very good corrosion resistance.
Double Edge, flat grind, and Apocalyptic
The double-edged blade Double Edge features symmetrical, dagger-like geometry and a pronounced tip. The flat grind ensures efficient cutting, while the Apocalyptic finish creates a distinctive, aged surface.
Tan Aluminum and Gen IV Mechanism
The frame is made of sand-colored aluminum. The Double-Action OTF mechanism allows for automatic deployment and retraction of the blade, while the Crud Kutter™ and Dual-Fuel Drive Train™ features are signature elements of the fourth generation UTX-70.
The steel clip is designed for right-side carry in a tip-down configuration, and the integral aluminum rear section of the body retains the Tan color.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes M390MK steel unique?
M390MK is a variant of M390 developed for Microtech, offering high resistance to wear and corrosion.
How do you sharpen a double-edged M390MK blade?
It’s best to use a precision guide system or diamond-coated tools and maintain a consistent angle on both edges of the blade.
How does the Double-Action OTF work?
The mechanism allows the blade to be extended and retracted automatically using a single slider, so the entire operation takes place without manual folding.
How do you maintain the OTF mechanism?
Prevent dust and fine debris from entering the interior of the frame. If necessary, apply a small amount of a mild lubricant designed for automatic mechanisms.
What makes the Apocalyptic finish unique?
Apocalyptic gives the blade surface a distinctive, intentionally aged look and effectively masks minor marks that develop during use.
