CPM 15V - highest vanadium-containing 14.50% (V) abrasion-resistant stainless tool steel with 5.25% chromium (Cr), 3.40% carbon (C) and 1.30% molybdenum (Mo). Its high vanadium content (it contains 50% more hard vanadium carbides in its microstructure than CPM 10V) promotes the formation of hard vanadium carbides for strength and exceptional wear resistance, and increases corrosion resistance. This unique steel is designed for the production of high-grade blades requiring exceptional toughness and knife wedges where longer life is desired. Manufactured by US Crucible Industries using the particle metallurgy / Crucible® Particle Metallurgy (CPM) method. The CPM process creates a very homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and ductility compared to steels produced by conventional methods.
Compression-Lock - Spyderco's (made in USA) patented blade locking mechanism. Extremely durable, provides extreme strength and ease of use.
Blade - with a Drop Point profile, finished with a non-reflective matte Stonewashed finish (masking minor scratches from use). Plain blade was derived with a Full Flat Grind, which provides excellent cutting edge geometry with a sharp tip. Blade was subjected to a specialized heat treatment protocol that was developed by renowned American knifemaker, Shawn Houston. The result is a blade that offers extreme sharpness and unparalleled edge durability. Enlarged 14mm round SpyderHole cutout (Spyderco patent) for quick knife opening. Long notched upper jimping thumb rest on the back of the blade and finger choil (index finger undercut between the Handle and the cutting edge) make it easier to control the knife.
Handle - contoured, matte non-slip G-10 (durable plastic, resistant to heat and cold, chemicals) grips. Robust metal hourglass clip (StoneWashed coating) with 4-way clip positions (up/down, right/left). In the back of the Handle an enlarged hole for a safety cable.
Skeleton - reinforced with two stainless steel plates to which the grips are attached with enlarged torx screws. This provides high strength with low weight of the knife. The so-called open-backed design simplifies cleaning and maintenance of the folder.
