CPM S45VN - an American martensitic high-alloy stainless steel with a hardness of 59-61 HRC, one of the best blade steels. Designed to provide better strength compared to CPM S30V, while keeping corrosion resistance at the highest level. Produced by US Crucible Industries using the particle metallurgy / Crucible® Particle Metallurgy (CPM) method. The CPM process creates a very homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and ductility compared to steels produced by conventional methods. The chemical composition has been balanced so that it is composed of 0.5% niobium carbides (Nb) along with 3.0% vanadium (V) and 14.0% chromium (Cr) carbides. The improved strength of CPM S45VN also provides better resistance to edge chipping.
DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) surface durability of the blade is enhanced with a matte black nanocomposite coating, which exhibits unique properties such as exceptional hardness and low friction, as well as excellent corrosion protection. It is one of the most resistant coatings to scratches and abrasion that are used in industry, including the knife industry.
Blade - powerful Praetorian T type Drop Point blade is coated with black DLC; hollow grinds give excellent cutting properties combined with high strength. Impressive embossing increases the strength, using them to open the knife. For increased insensitivity to contamination, phosphor bronze washers were used, making the pivot axis more resistant to field work. A powerful titanium frame lock bar secures the knife from folding, and unfolded and secured the knife is as solid as an armored cash register.
Handle - made of titanium in Old School Bronze. All Praetorian variants come with a D2 hardened steel coated backspacer, which also serves as a glass breaker. MKT has thoroughly tested these backspacers and found that they are completely reliable and 100% functional. No gimmicks. There will be no other variants of the backspacer, in a different material or a different shape, because it is meant to save lives in an emergency, not for decoration. Wear hand and arm protection when testing, as excessive impact force will ALWAYS cause cuts!
