- Native 5 Cobalt Blue G10, Satin the fifth generation of the Native folder, one of the best EDC. Covers in the elite Cobalt Blue color reserved for CPM SPY27 steel knives with G10 composite. Iconic design by Sal Glesser, founder of Spyderco.
The Native 5 Cobalt Blue G10, Satin is the quintessential example of excellence in EDC knives, exemplifying both design craftsmanship and advanced technology. The fifth generation of this legendary folder features a Handle made of G10 composite, prized for its exceptional durability and superior grip for enhanced control during use. Covers in an exclusive shade of Cobalt Blue, characteristic of knives equipped with a blade made of CPM SPY27 steel, give it a unique character and emphasize the high class of this model. Blade has been precisely crafted from proprietary CPM SPY27 steel, created specifically for the perfect balance between corrosion resistance, hardness and ease of sharpening. Designed by Sal Glesser - founder of the Spyderco brand - it combines functionality with aesthetics, making this model a reliable tool for everyday use.
CPM SPY27 - a proprietary blend of alloys, including vanadium, molybdenum, niobium, nitrogen and cobalt. The high-alloy stainless steel contains 1.4% carbon and a 1% admixture of niobium (Nb), one of the best carbides, which contributes to the steel's wear resistance. Thanks to its properties, the steel holds sharpness for a very long time and guarantees aggressive cuts for a long time. It is easy to sharpen, corrosion resistant and contains a high admixture of 14% chromium. It provides good strength and cutting edge retention, as well as a fine-grained structure. Produced by US Crucible Industries using the particle metallurgy / Crucible® Particle Metallurgy (CPM) method. The CPM process creates a very homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and toughness compared to steels produced by conventional methods.
Blade - Plain smooth blade brought out with a Full Flat Grind. Enlarged 14 mm round SpyderHole cutout (Spyderco patent) for ambidextrous thumb opening. Refined, precision-machined Back-Lock Blade locking mechanism guarantees extremely smooth operation. The notched thumb rest (upper jimping) on the back of the blade and the Finger Choil (an undercut for the index finger between the Handle and the cutting edge) make it easier to control the knife.
Handle - profiled, covered with non-slip textured grips in Cobalt Blue, attributed to the Blade with SPY27, provides a comfortable and secure grip. Made of durable, heat- and cold-resistant, chemical-resistant G10 composite. The grips are attached to a sturdy spacer (the so-called backspacer / handle grips connector) made of stainless steel, which ensures the strength of the construction. The whole thing was fastened with torx screws for easy twisting and unfolding of the folder. Polished steel metal clip with 4-way clip positions (up/down, right/left). Enlarged cord hole in the back.
