M390 - martensitic high-performance chromium steel produced using powder metallurgy. Due to the alloy concept, it is characterized by extremely high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Thanks to its high wear resistance, it retains its edge shape, keeping the blade sharp for a very long time (requires minimal maintenance). Another advantage is its resistance to “wire” formation during sharpening. Steel with a high chromium content of 20.0% (Cr) with an admixture of 1.9% carbon (C), 4.0% vanadium (V), hardened to 59-61 HRC, subjected to vacuum and cryogenic treatment and double tempering. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter's CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Produced by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) durability of the blade surface is increased by a black, matte nanocomposite coating, which has unique properties such as exceptional hardness and low friction, as well as excellent corrosion protection. The prominent belly extends the length of the cutting edge in relation to the length of the blade, converging towards the needle-sharp tip of the knife. The thickness of the blade ensures high durability, while the high, flat grind gives the cutting edge perfect geometry and extreme cutting performance. For improved penetration, the upper part of the blade is tapered. The ceramic ball bearings assist in opening the blade with the help of a fast flipper fin (index-finger flipper) after opening the crossguard. The knife can also be opened with the help of a hole in the blade. The whole is locked with the proven and popular frame lock with a steel inlay that protects the lock face from wear. Two steel cylinders above the pivot provide additional security. When pressed, they additionally lock the blade, making it as safe to use as a fixed blade.
Handle - made of solid titanium 6AL4V, also with a black DLC coating, perfectly milled on CNC machines. The contouring of the covers eliminates sharp edges, and the openwork surface improves grip. Only a few companies are able to make a handle with such incredible accuracy! The grips are connected by a titanium backspacer. A single position titanium clip (right) allows the knife to be carried in a tip-up position. On the spine, a slider releases an additional lock in the form of two steel rollers located above the pivot axis. The lock also works when the knife is closed, preventing accidental opening. The protruding part of the backspacer can be used as an improvised ice pick, it also has a hole for a safety or decorative cord.
