CPM 3V - a wear-resistant tool steel with high hardness. Produced by US Crucible Industries using the particle metallurgy / Crucible Particle Metallurgy(CPM) method. The CPM process creates a highly homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and ductility compared to steels produced by conventional methods. Designed to provide maximum fracture and chipping resistance in high wear resistance steels. It offers impact resistance greater than A2, D2, Cru-Wear or CPM M4 , approaching the levels provided by S7 and other impact-resistant grades. CPM 3V is hardened to 61-63 HRC for applications where chronic cracking and chipping is found in other tool steels, but where the abrasive properties of high-alloy steel are required.
Blade - tanto profile provides increased tip strength, cutting precision and the ability to effectively penetrate hard materials. This geometry is conducive to working in tight spaces and under control, offering the user predictable cutting edge behavior. A pronounced ground transition line enhances the stability of the blade during pressure-sensitive operations, and milling on the back (jimping) improves control when working under pressure. The CPM 3V steel used is a tool grade material, developed for extreme use - it is characterized by very high resistance to cracking and chipping, as well as good sharpness retention. Thanks to the tumbled finish , the Blade acquires a technical, matte appearance, which not only reduces reflections, but also effectively masks minor scratches from use.
Handle - made of G10 composite, which combines low weight with exceptional mechanical and chemical resistance. Molded with full control in mind , it has undercuts for fingers, preventing the hand from slipping on the blade even during dynamic work. The surface structure guarantees a secure grip with gloves, in the rain or in dirty conditions. The proportions of the Handle in relation to the length of the blade have been chosen with a view to the balance of the entire structure, which allows precise maneuvering of the knife even in tight spaces. In the back of the handle there is a hole for a safety cable, useful when working at height or in the field. The whole is completed with a Kydex sheath, in line with Medford's philosophy: minimalism, functionality and resistance to operational conditions.
