14C28N - martensitic chromium stainless steel is the latest achievement in the range of knife steels produced by the Swedish steelworks Sandvik. Vacuum & Cryogenic - 14C28N steel has undergone a specialized heat treatment process comprising two key stages. In Vacuum Heat Treatment, the steel is heated in a vacuum environment, which minimizes oxidation and ensures more uniform metal properties. This process increases the steel’s strength and structural integrity. Cryogenic Treatment: After heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability. Thanks to these advanced processes, 14C28N steel delivers exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and remarkable blade durability.
Crossbar Lock - a crossbar that moves horizontally within longitudinal slots in the steel side plates of the Handle frame. When the knife is opened, the locking bar engages from above with the rear portion of the blade, preventing it from moving backward. This bar is held in place by two springs. Unlocking occurs by pulling the locking bar backward; its ends are accessible through notches in the handle grips. In the closed position, the bar presses against a cam surface at the rear of the blade, preventing it from opening on its own. The advantages of the Crossbar Lock include resistance to contamination, practical insensitivity to dynamic loads, ease of operation with both the right and left hand, and smooth operation.
Blade - featuring a modern tanto profile with a reinforced tip. Finished with a Bead Blasted finish that masks minor scratches, achieved by sandblasting with fine glass or ceramic beads. The long cutting edge, relative to the blade length, tapers geometrically toward the needle-sharp tip of the knife. The blade thickness ensures high durability, while the high, flat grind guarantees excellent cutting performance. Ceramic ball bearings ensure smooth and seamless operation of the blade-retraction mechanism. Upper jimping on the blade spine, a serrated thumb rest. A deep choil facilitates a secure grip for precision work. An intuitive Crossbar Lock mechanism allowing for comfortable operation by both right- and left-handed users.
Handle - G10 composite grips (glass fiber pressed under pressure with synthetic resin), textured for improved grip, are screwed to the steel knife frame. The open-backed construction, secured with steel spacers, reduces weight and facilitates cleaning. The simple, solid construction ensures many years of reliable use. A deep, contoured finger groove (fore finger groove) improves grip security. The pivot is adorned with a stylized Kubey Knife logo. A two-position (right/left) metal deep-carry clip allows you to carry the knife discreetly in your pocket in the tip-up position (blade tip facing up).
