14C28N - martensitic chromium stainless steel is the latest achievement in the range of knife steels produced by the Swedish steelworks Sandvik. An optimized chemical composition with a unique combination ensures the highest quality, excellent edge performance, high hardness, and corrosion resistance. By reducing the carbon content to 0.62% (C) and increasing the chromium content to 14.0% (Cr), as well as adding nitrogen at 0.11% (N), corrosion resistance has been significantly enhanced. Considered an improved version of 13C26 steel. Unbeatable in the price/quality category!
Vacuum & Cryogenic - 14C28N steel has undergone a specialized heat treatment process comprising two key stages. In Vacuum Heat Treatment, the steel is heated in a vacuum environment, which minimizes oxidation and ensures more uniform metal properties. This process increases the steel’s strength and structural integrity. Cryogenic Treatment: After heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability. Thanks to these advanced processes, 14C28N steel delivers exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and remarkable blade durability.
Blade - a slender and extremely sharp Leaf-Shaped design. Finished with a Bead Blasted finish that masks minor scratches, achieved by sandblasting with fine glass or ceramic beads. The long cutting edge tapers toward the aggressive blade tip. The blade thickness, combined with a high, flat grind, provides excellent cutting edge geometry and extreme cutting performance. Ceramic ball bearings ensure smooth and seamless operation of the blade opening mechanism. The knife can be opened using an oval hole milled into the blade. On the blade spine, upper jimping, a serrated thumb rest. Liner-Lock mechanism.Blackwashed—a blade finishing method that combines two techniques. Black Coating - a protective, non-reflective black coating. Stonewashed - after applying the coating, the blade undergoes a process that gives it a slightly aged, satin-matte appearance and effectively masks minor scratches and marks caused by use. The final result is a unique, aged look with a matte, dark finish that is both stylish and practical. It is a more aesthetically pleasing variant of the classic black stonewashed.
Ultem™ - a polymer belonging to the polyetherimide family, or simply PEI. This material is characterized primarily by high mechanical and impact strength with a very high strength-to-weight ratio. It also features high thermal resistance (180°C) and high chemical resistance to all types of solvents (synthetic and natural), lubricants, and other chemicals. Add to this its complete resistance to weather conditions, and we have the ideal material for knife handles.
Handle - grips made of transparent Ultem™ composite, a virtually indestructible material that is weather-resistant, resistant to chemicals and mechanical damage, and textured for improved grip, are bolted to the steel knife frame. The open-backed design, without a typical backspacer, is held together by steel spacer sleeves, making cleaning easier. The simple, reliable construction ensures years of use. The fore finger groove improves grip and creates a mini-Guard, preventing the hand from slipping onto the blade. The pivot axis is adorned with the manufacturer’s stylized logo. A two-position (right/left-handed) metal deep carry clip allows you to carry the knife discreetly in your pocket in the tip-up position (blade tip facing up).
