The Microtech Exocet II Wharncliffe OD Green Aluminum, Apocalyptic M390MK by Tony Marfione OTF automatic knife (1156-10APOD) is a compact double-action automatic knife featuring a Wharncliffe blade, a 6061-T6 aluminum frame, and a wide clip that can double as a bill clip. The model combines Böhler M390MK steel, an Apocalyptic finish, and a subdued OD Green color scheme.
The 58.42 mm blade automatically extends and retracts when the thumb slide is moved. The nearly straight Wharncliffe edge provides good control during precise cutting, opening packages, and tip work. A lanyard hole provides additional security for this compact knife when carrying it.
Böhler M390MK – corrosion-resistant steel
The blade is made of Böhler M390MK stainless steel, developed specifically for Microtech knives. The material offers high corrosion resistance, good edge retention, and properties well-suited to the compact design of a switchblade.
Wharncliffe, Plain Edge, and Apocalyptic
The Wharncliffe profile features an almost straight cutting edge and a dropped tip, which facilitates precise blade control. The smooth Plain Edge and flat grind ensure controlled cutting, while the Apocalyptic finish gives the surface a factory-aged look and minimizes the visibility of minor signs of wear.
OD Green Aluminum and a bill clip
The OD Green 6061-T6 aluminum handle provides rigidity while maintaining compact dimensions. The wide tip-down clip can be used both to secure the knife and to hold folded bills. The Exocet II design does not include a glass breaker.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for Böhler M390MK steel?
After use, clean the blade and dry it thoroughly. Despite its high corrosion resistance, do not allow moisture, salt, or corrosive substances to remain on it. Before long-term storage, you can apply a thin layer of preservative.
How do you sharpen a Wharncliffe blade?
Guide the straight portion of the edge along the sharpening stone while maintaining a constant angle. Near the tip, it’s best to reduce pressure so as not to alter the characteristic Wharncliffe geometry or excessively round off the tip.
How does the double-action OTF mechanism work?
Sliding the slide forward automatically extends the blade, while sliding it backward retracts the blade into the Handle. Each movement should be performed firmly all the way to the end of the slide.
Can the clip be used as a money clip?
Yes. The clip’s wide design allows it to hold folded bills while also enabling you to clip the knife to your pocket. However, it does not replace a full wallet or provide security for documents and cards.
How do you clean the OTF mechanism?
You should regularly remove dust and small debris from the blade opening and around the slide. For maintenance, use a small amount of a product designed for knife mechanisms, avoiding excessive lubrication.
