The Microtech Ultratech Gen III ZBP 1123-10APNC is an OTF automatic knife featuring a Tanto blade made of Böhler M390MK steel and an aluminum handle with a natural, clear finish. The blade’s “Apocalyptic” finish gives the design a more utilitarian look, and the ZBP system limits play once the blade is extended.
The Double Action OTF mechanism allows the blade to be automatically extended and retracted using a slide. Generation III utilizes the Dual-Fuel Drive Train system and the Crud Kutter solution, which support smooth operation of the mechanism and minimize the impact of fine debris.
Böhler M390MK – high durability and long-lasting sharpness
The blade is made of Böhler M390MK steel, developed for Microtech in collaboration with Böhler. The alloy combines high resistance to wear and corrosion with excellent edge retention.
Tanto, flat grind, and Apocalyptic finish
The Tanto profile is characterized by a robust front section of the blade and a distinct tip. The flat grind ensures versatile cutting performance, while the Apocalyptic finish gives the surface a distinctive, intentionally aged appearance.
Natural Aluminum and the ZBP System
The handle is made of 6061-T6 aluminum with a natural, clear finish that highlights the technical character of the metal body. The handle is constructed as a single piece, so it does not use a separate backspacer.
The ZBP – Zero Blade Play system limits blade play when the blade is fully extended. Automatic control is provided by a slider, and the Dual-Fuel Drive Train and Crud Kutter systems support smooth and consistent operation of the mechanism.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for Böhler M390MK steel?
After use, it’s a good idea to clean the blade and dry it thoroughly. M390MK has high corrosion resistance, but regular care helps keep the surface and edge in good condition.
How do you sharpen a Tanto profile?
It’s best to maintain the factory angles of both sections of the edge and sharpen them separately so as not to round off the distinct transition between them. With M390MK, it’s best to use high-performance abrasives.
What does the ZBP system offer?
ZBP – Zero Blade Play reduces the play of the extended blade, improving the stability of the design during use.
How does the Double Action OTF mechanism work?
Pushing the slide forward automatically extends the blade, and pulling the slide back automatically retracts it into the handle. Both actions are performed by the same mechanism.
How do you maintain the Ultratech Gen III?
The mechanism should be protected from excessive sand, dust, and other fine debris. Regular cleaning and proper maintenance help ensure the smooth operation of the slide and the drive mechanism.
