The Kizer Microbe DSJ AirTi V2742DSJA1 combines a small Sandvik 14C28N steel blade with pink Norplex UltreX G10 and a black PVD coating. Maksim Epifantsev’s design utilizes a Non-Locking Detent Slip Joint mechanism and a lightweight AirTi construction based on skeletonized Ti-6Al-4V liners.
The Drop Point blade can be opened with a thumb stud or using the classic Nail Nick. With an overall length of 134.94 mm, the Microbe remains a very compact folder, and the deep-carry clip—which can be repositioned to either side—makes it easy to carry on a daily basis.
Sandvik 14C28N – A Sensible Choice for a Small Folding Knife
14C28N offers good corrosion resistance, easy sharpening, and sufficient mechanical strength for everyday use. With a hardness of 58–60 HRC, it’s well-suited for a lightweight utility knife that should be easy to maintain and quick to resharpen.
Drop Point, Flat, and Black PVD Coating
The Drop Point profile provides a distinct tip and practical edge geometry, while the flat grind facilitates efficient cutting of thin materials. The black PVD coating contrasts with the pink handle and protects the blade’s surface.
Norplex UltreX G10 and AirTi
The pink Norplex UltreX G10 creates a distinctive, durable grip that withstands everyday use, under which Ti-6Al-4V skeletonized liners operate. The AirTi system reduces the overall weight of the construction, while stainless steel spacer sleeves leave the back of the handle open.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I care for 14C28N steel?
After use, simply remove any dirt and dry the blade. Regular cleaning helps maintain the edge’s sharpness and the aesthetic appeal of the black PVD coating.
How do you sharpen Sandvik 14C28N?
Water stones, ceramic stones, and guided sharpening systems work well for sharpening. The steel isn’t particularly difficult to work with, so you can efficiently restore the edge without using very aggressive abrasives.
How does the Detent Slip Joint work?
The mechanism provides controlled resistance during blade movement but does not create a mechanical lock in the open position. This keeps the design simple and consistent with the concept of a non-locking folder.
What is AirTi?
AirTi refers to the use of precision-milled, skeletonized liners made of Ti-6Al-4V. Their purpose is to reduce weight while maintaining a rigid and stable handle structure.
Can the clip be repositioned?
Yes. The steel deep-carry clip can be mounted on the right or left side of the Handle, always in a tip-up configuration.
