The Kizer Microbe DSJ AirTi Ki2742DSJA1 is a materially more advanced version of the compact Microbe DSJ, featuring a Crucible CPM S35VN blade and a black aluminum handle. Maksim Epifantsev’s design retains the lock-free Detent Slip Joint mechanism and the slim AirTi construction with titanium liners.
The Drop Point blade is 55.57 mm long, with a flat grind and a satin finish. The thumb stud and Nail Nick offer two ways to open the knife manually, and the reversible steel deep-carry clip allows for comfortable carrying on either side of the pocket.
Crucible CPM S35VN – Premium-Grade Steel in a Compact EDC
CPM S35VN is a powder steel stainless steel prized for its edge retention, mechanical strength, and reasonable ease of sharpening. In the small Microbe, it combines a compact form with a material that performs well in frequent EDC use.
Drop Point, Flat, and Satin
The short Drop Point blade retains a versatile shape useful for precision cutting, opening packages, and small utility tasks. The flat grind supports efficient blade guidance, and the satin finish emphasizes the simple, technical character of the black aluminum version.
Aluminum and AirTi Frame
The black aluminum handle gives this variant a more technical look, while the internal Ti-6Al-4V liners are skeletonized according to the AirTi concept. The open spine with stainless steel spacer sleeves simplifies the construction and facilitates access to the interior.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to Care for CPM S35VN?
After use, it’s a good idea to clean and dry the blade, especially after contact with moisture or substances that may leave residue. Basic maintenance is sufficient to keep the steel in good condition for a long time.
How do you sharpen CPM S35VN?
Ceramic and diamond sharpening stones, as well as guided sharpening systems, work well for sharpening this steel. The steel offers good wear resistance, so sharpening may take a little longer than with 14C28N.
How does the Detent Slip Joint work?
The blade is stabilized by a detent mechanism but is not mechanically locked in place when open. Therefore, when using the knife, keep in mind the non-locking nature of this design.
What does the aluminum version of AirTi offer?
Beneath the aluminum grips are lightweight, skeletonized liners made of Ti-6Al-4V. They provide a rigid structural framework without the need for a heavy solid frame.
How does the reversible clip work?
The steel deep-carry clip can be moved to the right or left side of the handle. In both positions, the knife is carried in the tip-up position.
