M390MK - thanks to the collaboration between engineers from Microtech and Böhler, an exclusive version of M390 steel was developed exclusively for Microtech. The carbon content was increased and subjected to more rigorous control, thereby improving the properties of M390 steel to ensure better edge retention, corrosion resistance, and polishability. A martensitic high-performance chromium steel produced using powder metallurgy. Due to its alloy composition, it features exceptionally high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Thanks to its high wear resistance, it retains its edge shape well, allowing the blade to stay sharp for a very long time (requires minimal maintenance). Another advantage is its resistance to “wire” formation during sharpening. Steel with a high chromium content of 19.0% (Cr), alloyed with 1.95% carbon (C) and 4.0% vanadium (V), hardened to a range of 59–61 HRC. This super steel is comparable to Carpenter’s CPM 20CV or CTS-204P steels. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Ram-Lock (Crossbar Lock) – a crossbar that moves horizontally within longitudinal slots in the steel side plates of the handle frame. When the knife is opened, the locking bar engages from above onto the rear part of the blade, preventing it from moving back. This bar is pressed down by two springs. Unlocking occurs by pulling the locking bar backward; its ends are accessible through cutouts in the side plates of the handle. In the closed position, the bar presses against a cam surface at the rear of the blade, preventing it from opening spontaneously. The advantages of the Ram-Lock mechanism include resistance to contamination, practical insensitivity to dynamic loads, ease of operation with both the right and left hand, and smooth operation.
DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) The blade’s surface durability is enhanced by a black, matte nanocomposite coating that exhibits unique properties such as exceptional hardness and low friction, as well as excellent corrosion resistance. It is one of the most scratch- and wear-resistant coatings used in industry, including the knife industry.
Blade - machine-ground Drop Point style, single-edged S/E (Single Edge). Finished with a Stonewashed method that masks minor scratches caused during use, and then coated with DLC. Opens using the model’s signature dual thumb studs—teardrop-shaped knurled pins on both sides of the blade—allowing both right- and left-handed users to operate it with ease. Ball bearings ensure the smooth operation of the opening mechanism. The blade features a high flat grind, providing excellent cutting edge geometry and extreme cutting performance. To maintain full control over the blade, the blade spine features upper jimping, a serrated thumb rest. The entire unit is secured by a convenient Ram-Lock.
Handle - made of durable titanium, covered with a distinctive texture imitating the surface of a fragmentation grenade (Frag Pattern) for a better grip. The wide lock slide features Microtech’s signature stepped X pattern. Both scales are secured with a solid titanium backspacer. A reversible (right/left) titanium clip allows for discreet tip-up carry. Above the clip is a lanyard hole for a safety or decorative cord.
