Gauntlet CBN Rods (603CBN), a set of two CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) sharpening rods. Made from a material called borazon, a polymorphic variety of boron nitride. It is an extremely hard synthetic super-abrasive material rated at 90-95% of diamond hardness, but with greater chemical and heat resistance, making it suitable for use on iron-based alloys and steels where diamond cannot be used. Due to its unique properties, its price is on average 30% higher than that of diamond.
Extra long 228 mm bars (not found in sharpening kits from other manufacturers), allow sharpening of most knives, including kitchen knives. Fits Gauntlet Select (# 603F) and Gauntlet Premium (# 603FCBN) sharpening kits from Spyderco, makers of the finest sharpening systems. Oval-shaped, coated with coated, regular boron nitride grains bound with ceramic material, they pick up steel at a much higher rate than diamond rods.
